If the dryer runs but clothes come out damp, or cycles take twice as long as they used to, start with the vent. That symptom is a venting problem far more often than an appliance problem, and cleaning the duct is the cheaper answer.
If the dryer will not start, will not turn, makes noise, or makes no heat at all, that is a repair.
If the duct is foil, crushed, far too long, or terminates somewhere it should not, cleaning it will not solve the underlying problem and it needs replacing or rerouting.
