Samsung Dryer Error Codes
Samsung groups its dryer codes into families. Here is what each family means, including why heating and temperature codes usually mean your vent.
Samsung organizes dryer codes into families rather than listing each one separately, which is useful once you know the grouping. Several codes in the same family mean the same underlying thing.
Heating errors: HC, hE, HC4
The dryer is overheating. Samsung documentation names a clogged lint screen or vent system as the most common cause, because trapped heat is exactly what a restricted exhaust produces.
Clean the lint screen and the vent system first. If the code persists with a verified clear vent, the cycling thermostat, high-limit thermostat, or heating element need testing.
On electric models, these codes can also appear when the dryer is not getting hot enough due to low supply voltage, which is an electrical problem rather than a dryer problem.
Temperature errors: tS, t5, tC, tO, t0, tE and related
The thermistor is reading out of range. Samsung again attributes these most commonly to a clogged lint screen or vent trapping heat inside the machine.
Clean the lint screen and the exhaust. If the code continues, the thermistor itself or its wiring connection needs testing.
Door errors: dC, dE, dF, do, d0
The dryer does not register the door as properly closed. Check that nothing is caught in the door, that the latch engages cleanly, and that the latch is not damaged. dC is the most frequently reported Samsung code and it is often resolved by closing the door firmly enough to click.
Jammed button errors: bE, bE2, bC2, 6E, 6E2, 6C2
A control panel button is stuck or reading as continuously pressed. Power the dryer off and press each button to free it.
Voltage errors: 9C1, 9E, 2E, 9E1
Abnormal voltage supply. Confirm the dryer is on its own circuit with no extension cord and that the power cord is installed correctly.
Communication errors: AC, Et, AE, EEE, E3 and related
Internal components are not communicating. Generally a control board or harness issue.
Temperature condition: Ct
The dryer is below freezing or above 104°F. Not a fault, an operating condition.
What this pattern tells you
Two of the most common Samsung code families, heating and temperature, both trace primarily back to the vent. Checking airflow at the exterior hood is the fastest way to resolve either. Repeatedly clearing a heating code and continuing to run the dryer is how an inexpensive thermostat replacement becomes a heating element replacement.
Common questions
dC keeps showing. Is the door broken?
Usually not. dC is the most frequently reported Samsung code and it often just means the door is not closing firmly enough to click. Check nothing is caught in the seal and that the latch engages cleanly before assuming a part.
HC came back after I cleaned the vent.
Then the vent is not the cause, or it is not fully clear. With a verified clear duct, the cycling thermostat, high-limit thermostat and heating element need testing. Do not keep running the dryer while a heating code repeats.
Is Ct an error?
No. Ct means the dryer is operating below freezing or above about 104°F. It is an operating condition rather than a fault, and it is rare indoors here outside a hot garage.
My clothes come out damp but there is no heating code.
Check the moisture sensor strips inside the drum. Fabric softener and dryer sheets leave a film that makes the sensor read a wet load as dry, which ends the cycle early.
A voltage code appeared. What causes that?
Abnormal supply. Confirm the dryer is on its own circuit, that no extension cord is in use, and that the power cord is installed correctly for the outlet type.
Why do so many Samsung codes come back to the vent?
Because two of the largest families, heating and temperature, both describe trapped heat, and restricted exhaust is what traps heat. Samsung documentation names a clogged lint screen or vent as the most common cause of both.
