LG Dryer Error Codes
LG Flow Sense codes report duct blockage as a percentage. Here is what d75, d80, d90, and d95 mean and what to do about each.
LG dryers are unusually direct about venting. The Flow Sense system measures airflow through the exhaust and reports restriction as a percentage, which makes these among the most useful codes any manufacturer produces.
The d codes: duct blockage
The number after the d is the percentage of blockage the dryer has measured.
d75 and d80 — Roughly 75 to 80 percent restricted. The dryer keeps running but takes noticeably longer and works harder. Treat this as the warning it is.
d90 — Around 90 percent restricted. At this level the dryer limits heat to protect itself, which is why clothes come out damp after a long cycle.
d95 — About 95 percent restricted. Critical. The dryer will typically cut heat entirely and shut down.
LG guidance is to have the exhaust system cleaned by a professional when these codes appear and cannot be resolved by clearing the lint filter and the visible duct, and not to run the dryer with a severely restricted exhaust.
Two things that produce d codes without a clogged duct
Flexible foil duct. LG documents this specifically. The deep corrugations create turbulence and back pressure that Flow Sense reads as blockage. Replacing foil with rigid or semi-rigid metal is the fix. See types of dryer vent hose.
Excessive length or too many elbows. A run that is simply too long or turns too many times restricts airflow permanently. Cleaning will not resolve it; the run needs rerouting.
On gas models, a d80 can also indicate insufficient gas supply rather than a duct problem.
What to check
- Clean the lint filter completely, including checking that water passes through it
- Pull the dryer out and inspect the transition duct for crushing or kinks
- Run the dryer and check airflow at the exterior vent hood
- Check the hood for a stuck damper, lint packing, or a screen or bird guard catching lint
If the code persists after all of that, the restriction is inside the concealed run or inside the dryer internal ducting and blower housing.
Other common LG codes
tE — Thermistor fault. dE — Door not detected as closed. PS — Power failure detected.
The important point
A d code is not a malfunction. It is the dryer accurately reporting that your duct is restricted, and it is doing so specifically because a restricted exhaust is a fire risk. Resetting it without clearing the duct removes the warning and leaves the condition.
Common questions
Is a d90 code a malfunction?
No, and this is the most useful thing to understand about it. The dryer is accurately reporting that your duct is heavily restricted. The machine is working correctly by telling you.
Can I turn Flow Sense off?
It is not something to disable, and where a model lets you dismiss the alert the restriction is still there. The code exists because a severely restricted exhaust is a fire risk.
I cleaned the lint filter and the code came back.
Then the restriction is past the filter. Check the transition duct behind the machine for crushing, then airflow at the exterior hood, then the hood itself for a stuck damper or a screen catching lint.
The code appeared right after a new dryer was installed.

Will the dryer stop working?
At the higher levels, effectively yes. The machine limits heat to protect itself around d90 and typically cuts heat and stops at d95, which is why clothes come out damp after a long cycle.
I have a gas LG and it shows d80.
On gas models a d80 can indicate insufficient gas supply rather than a duct problem. Worth ruling out the vent first, since that is the more common cause either way.
